Krka National Park
Krka River National Park: A Dalmatian Jewel
Situated in central Dalmatia, Krka River National Park stands as one of Croatia’s most frequented natural attractions. The park is famed for Skradinski Buk, an impressive natural pool fed by towering waterfalls and gentle cascades, recognized as the largest travertine cascade system in Europe. The Krka River, which spans 73 km, shapes the park’s diverse landscape, carving its way from the western slopes of the Dinaric Range to the Adriatic Sea near Šibenik. Over time, the river has sculpted a canyon, reaching depths of up to 200 meters, through limestone hills, carrying calcium carbonate and creating a spectacular natural phenomenon.
Exploring the Wonders of Krka River National Park
The park offers five main entry points, with Skradin and Lozovac at the southern end being the most popular, especially for visitors coming from Šibenik. Other entrances include Roški Slap, Krka Monastery, and Burnum. Within the park, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities and attractions, including picturesque footpaths, engaging sightseeing tours, educational presentations, delightful boat trips, souvenir shopping, a museum, and a selection of restaurants. The park’s vicinity is also rich in historical significance, boasting archaeological remains of fortresses dating back to Roman times.
